Awet Andemicael

Awet Andemicael is Associate Dean for Marquand Chapel and Lecturer in Theology at Yale Divinity School. She was the first black woman to be awarded a Ph.D. in theology from the Yale Department of Religious Studies. She also holds an M.A.R. in theology from Yale Divinity School and a certificate from the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, in addition to degrees from Harvard University, the University of Notre Dame, and UC Irvine. She has published and presented scholarly work in several areas in Christian theology, with a particular focus on contemporary engagement with early Christian thought, and theology and music. In addition, Dr. Andemicael is a professional soprano and has performed with major orchestras and ensembles in concert venues across the United States and abroad.
