Born in Paterson, NJ, in 1957, Peter Cole is the author of six collections of poems most recently Draw Me After. His many volumes of translation from Hebrew and Arabic, medieval and modern include The Dream of the Poem: Hebrew Poetry from Muslim and Christian Spain, c. 950-1492 and The Poetry of Kabbalah: Mystical Verse from the Jewish Tradition. With Adina Hoffman, he is also the author of Sacred Trash: The Lost and Found World of the Cairo Geniza, which won the American Library Association’s Brody Medal for the Jewish Book of the Year. Among his honors are an American Academy of Arts and Letters Award in Literature, a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, a Jewish National Book Award, the PEN Prize in Translation, and a MacArthur Fellowship. He has been affiliated with Yale since 2006, and currently teaches courses each spring in Comparative Literature and Jewish Studies.
